Bucket Filling and Valentines Day

When I first stumbled upon the "bucket filling" idea it was close to Valentine's Day. The whole idea blew my mind, but then the thought of incorporating it into Valentine's Day really intrigued me. AND at this point in the year the students and I could all use a gentle reminder of how to treat each other! It's a triple scoop of loving, caring, fun! I use these stories plus a couple more in my Bucket Filling unit.

Check out this video on youtube for the story of "How Full is Your Bucket?"
I love the story it is so sweet how the boy learns about filling buckets.

Here is a read aloud of "Chicken Sunday"  By Patricia Polacco that has such a great message about being kind to others and how children can do things for others as well.

This unit is full of activities that go with these stories. While students learn about being kind to each other, they are also building comprehension skills with cause and effect, beginning, middle and end, and problem solution activities. Vocabulary, word sorts, writing, and a craftivity are also included.

This bucket filling freebie is part of the unit as well, but if you just want to start bucket filling, this should help you!

I have also created a healthy Valentine's Day freebie you can use to give your students a thoughtful Valentine. I am obsessed with Cuties! I put them in my water and it's like I'm having desert all day! So my students will get two each. They will also get this "sweet tooth" card and a new toothbrush to help celebrate dental health as well.
