It's Groundhog week y'all! We are going to study groundhogs and make predictions. We aren't just making groundhog predictions though... my students will learn about how to make their own predictions based on what they know and using text evidence. They will learn that we can't just trust a groundhog's shadow... and WHY!
Here is my booklist for the week.
This anchor chart will help my students understand how to make predictions based on what they know and what they find in the text.
This is a mix of fiction and nonfiction. I usually spend two days on the Gail Gibbons book. One day I do the first half which is all about groundhogs, then the next day I do the last half which is more about Groundhog Day. Click the pic below to get my comprehension unit that goes with these texts.
We will spend some time digging deep into differentiated texts about groundhogs. Students will use think marks to mark their thoughts. They will highlight answers and refer to text for text dependent questions.
The tiered questioning gets more in depth and rigorous each day as students read and re-read the text.
