High Low Linky

I am linking up with my dear friend Julie at A First for Everything for her High/Low linky. This linky gives us the chance to share some highs and lows from our week. If you haven't linked up, you should give it a try. It's a great community of sharing!

First I'll share my highs and try to have more highs than lows, because my lows are very low and were (and continue to be) very emotional for me.

 1. My son came home for a few hours this weekend... he went to work and school this summer in Charlotte, NC and we miss him so. Just the very short visit made my week! He loves this dog (named Charlotte) and wants to take her with him, but his work and school hours just wouldn't be fair to the puppy.
 2. Chicken Sunday is one of my most favorite stories ever! We use it with my Bucket Filling Unit on TpT as we talk about character traits and how making others happy, makes us happy.

3. More from my character traits (with Amazing Grace anchor chart) and some of the books that are used in this unit.

4. My future DIL (daughter-in-law) has been part of our family for 4 years now, and she is health nut! About to graduate from college and become a personal trainer, she is also starting her own blog which I will share with you all soon. She gave me the easiest recipe for smoothies I have ever had. I make 5 smoothies at a time by tripling her recipe and that is my school lunch for the week. They are filling enough and I lost a couple of pounds in the first week by doing this instead of meals.

Ok... now for my lows. Things are getting better now but it has been a rough week.

 1. Like my friend Julie (host of the linky from A First for Everything), my hubby also had surgery this week. He did great while in the hospital and when we left we thought it was going to be an easy road...

 2. But half way home he got very sick and was unable to eat for 2 days. On the 3rd day his "old man table" looked like this... applesauce was the only real food that was staying down, jolly ranchers for a little sugar energy and to kill the "throw up" taste, Mylanta to tame the acid, gas and sour stomach  and water to stay hydrated (I told him repeatedly that Gatorade would be better).
So... things are getting better, he ate breakfast like normal this morning and I am looking forward to a great week in school next week getting deeper into routines, treating each other with kindness, teaching story elements with fairy tales and building stamina with our Daily 5.

  1. We read How Full is your Bucket on Wednesday. The kids loved it! I bet it is hard to have your son away from home. My oldest turns 19 in October and she has already started about moving and getting married. I'm just hoping its just talk for now;) I'm not ready!
I hope your Hubby is doing better! You and Julie were kindred spirits this week with both you're Hubbies in the hospital. I'm praying and keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

    1. Yes, we were! I hope that your daughter can hold off on all that for a while ;) My son was going to school close to home the first year after he graduated but after working this summer, things changed :( Thanks for the prayers!

  2. I'm happy that your hubby is on the mend. I remember you telling me a while back that he and I had similar issues. I'll have to talk to you sometime.

    1. Yes we will, I vaguely remember the conversation... I'm full of info after our experiences so if you have any questions, I may know the answer. ;)
