This week my students will start taking a closer look at American Symbols with close reading. Leveled texts and tiered questioning makes it easy for me to custom fit the lessons for each student.
This book list will provide some help with vocabulary and building background knowledge to help students in decoding.
This video will be used for more exposure to American Symbols.
My American Symbols Close Reading packet contains 16 differentiated texts on 4 different American Symbols.
Students enjoy searching for evidence and marking up the text. Tiered questioning has them refer to the text to mark names for people and things, labeling, comparing, writing responses, making connections and more.
I have a freebie that you may enjoy if you are teaching presidents this week as well. Click the pic for the freebie or the more in depth product.
My students will also keep working on organizational skills. This FREEBIE tool is available on this blogpost and you can read to find out the story behind THAT MESSY DESK!
You can get this half price until Monday night for $2.50 or enter my giveaway below.
I am going to give away a copy of Jivey's Unit 1 Mentor Sentences for 2nd Grade

DeleteCute idea!! I need to so this for Social Studies!! What are your strategy centers for Math???
ReplyDeleteMy strategy centers are something I made a long time ago to help students practice things like doubles, the property of zero, transverse properties, adding to subtract. I have not taken time to create a file but hope to get that done this summer!
