Five For Friday... That Messy Desk and a Giveaway!

Well I'm a day late to the party y'all. I'll share why in one of my 5 :) Thanks for stopping by to see what I've been up to this week!

I don't often get around to joining this linky, but I love Doodle Bug's Teaching's Five for Friday Linky Party!

This messy desk has been breaking my heart for a long time now... not just because it is so messy! She is a little sweetie, rough around the edges, and living in poverty.

Messy and chaos is the norm for her. Read this blog post to find out how I am helping her to be better organized, at least at school, and get some FREE tools that you can use with your messy desks

I am getting ready to make my student Valentines this weekend using these two printables. I am that teacher... the one who has fruit at the parties instead of cupcakes! My students always love it! :)

I sent out my 2nd FREEBIE newsletter this past weekend! It was full of free Valentine freebies and ideas like these bookmarks...

If you missed it, you can click here to view it and have access to the freebies. Also please subscribe to get this amazing resource sent to your inbox in the future!

Why I am late to the party... my son came home last night for the weekend and I did not want to miss a minute!

This is his 2nd pride and joy in life. His first was his dog and we had to put her down this week. He didn't want to come home and face it, but he did. He is such a sweet, hardworking kid. He is 19 years old and lives and works full time 4 hours away from home. But he is going to make something of himself! :)

We worked with mentor sentences this week from Ideas by Jivey. In this blog post  she shares how to implement mentor sentences. I think they are a wonderful way to explicitly teach sentence structure and parts of speech in a meaningful way.

You can also read my blog post to find out how I used them with our grammar notebooks and incorporated anchor charts and a Schoolhouse Rock video with the lessons.

I am going to give away a copy of Jivey's Unit 1 Mentor Sentences for 2nd Grade
ms

along with a copy of my new American Symbols Close Reading packet. I have designed these packets with differentiated texts and tiered questioning that fits each level of texts. Click the link to find out more about American Symbols Close Reading.
