Piggy Poetry, April Foolishness and TpT Spring Sale

I'm linking up with my friend Jivey at Ideas by Jivey to share about teaching students to write poetry. I'm so excited about teaching poetry this April! It's always been something I love to teach, but it is so difficult to get first graders to write any form of poetry... no different than the rest of us I suppose. Poetry shows inner thoughts and emotions of the writer, no matter what the topic is. Poetry isn't literal and being "creative" is a hard task!

I'm hoping to make poetry much more fun for my littles with my new Piggy Poetry unit! PIggy Poetry

I can't wait to see what the kids will be writing in these poetry frames:

If you haven't tried a diamante poem check out this website:

They will love these posters to help them understand literary devices:

There are tons of examples for kids for these and many more literary devices at yourdictionary.com. This is definitely one of my new favorite websites... they have so much information about teaching reading, writing, grammar and spelling to students of all ages.

To balance the poetry unit and make it even more fun I am incorporating these books:

Thanks for reading about my glutenous state with these pig books and poetry! Haha!!! Poetry will be fun... when pigs fly!
